Two houses were damaged in Dartmouth Wednesday night when a 26-year-old Dartmouth man negligently discharged his handgun while cleaning it.

The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. on Leonor Drive.

Dartmouth Police said the owner failed to ensure his H&K 9mm handgun was empty before attempting to clean it. The gun fired, and the bullet went through the wall of one home and entered the neighbor's home. Nobody was injured, and no arrests were made.

The gun owner is licensed, but that license is now under review by the Dartmouth Police Firearms Division.
