Hear Mayor Mitchell talk about what is next after last night's "Yes" vote for the New Bedford casino.

On Tuesday night, voters approved the $650 million proposal by nearly a 3-1 margin.

A total of 8,355 people voted for the casino, while 3.040 voted against it.

Major John Mitchell feels satisfied that New Bedford can pull it off and have a waterfront casino because of the large margin of victory and the 21% voter turnout.

Mitchell stated that the turnout and the margin of victory both exceeded his expectations

Some of the keys to New Bedford’s victory includes the city’s Host Community Agreement and informational public forums.

The city will now continue to work with developer KG Urban Enterprises as they continue their bid for the final gaming license in the state.

The city that is running against New Bedford is Brockton. However, Brockton’s casino proposal won the vote on a very slight margin, and it is considered to be too close to the Boston area.
