The start of the 2014 football season is upon us!  This season, we're covering the best Friday night games across the South Coast. We kick everything off with a huge rivalry game under the Friday Night Lights. The Dartmouth Indians take on their sworn enemies, the Bishop Stang Spartans.

As a Dartmouth football alumnus, I've seen this rivalry first hand. These two schools just don't like each other, which always makes an already competitive game even better. When Dartmouth High School moved to its current location in South Dartmouth, the rivalry perhaps lost some of its bite from when the two schools were within walking distance of each other, but this game still has the making for another classic match.

In last season's rivalry game, Dartmouth dominated Bishop Stang 48-0 as the Indians went on to an overall record of 6-5, with the Spartans finishing 4-7. Both teams look forward to a fresh start and hope to improve their records this season, with each respective League titles within reach.

Although Stang is still the underdog Friday, with Dartmouth being one of the toughest matches on their schedule, the Spartans still hope and expect to beat their rivals to the south.

The game starts at 7 p.m. in Bishop Stang's home field at 500 Slocum Rd. in North Dartmouth. Be sure to check us out just before kickoff and register for your chance to win the $5,000 Jack Peterson Scholarship, brought to you by Care Free Homes in Fairhaven and Pink Box Desserts of Dartmouth. See you there!
