Free Youth Training in Marine and Maritime Industry [MassHire Mondays]

The New Bedford Career Center is now MassHire Greater New Bedford Career Center. But their focus is still the same. They are connecting job seekers with businesses looking to fill various positions.

The marine and maritime industry is a key employer on the SouthCoast. Jobs and employers range from shipyards to fishing to recreation such as SCUBA diving.

MassHire has partnered with key employers and organizations such as the New Bedford Port Authority, Northeast Maritime Institute, Bob’s Sea & Ski, the Massachusetts Maritime Trade Association, and other organizations to support employers and connect job seekers with careers in the region.

Eligible out-of-school youth ages 16-24 can gain skills for the marine industry jobs in a free, hands-on training program at the Community Boating Center. The program includes certification in the US Safe Powerboat Handling program, OSHA, fiberglass repair, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, and rigging in the marine industry.

Eligible out-of-school youth will also complete an on the job training with a local marine employer and be job ready at the end of the program.
