If you're doing your holiday shopping in Downtown New Bedford, you'll be thrilled to know you can park for free throughout the city during the holiday season.

Mayor Jon Mitchell announced that just like last year, New Bedford will offer free parking at your first metered space for up to two hours for both downtown and Acushnet Ave.

And if you don't find a space, you can get two hours of free parking at the Elm Street Garage and the Zeiterion Garage!

The free parking through January 1, 2016 is meant to boost local holiday shopping in the city and as Mayor Mitchell says,

New Bedford is home to many fine galleries, shops, and restaurants and I invite everyone to help support local small businesses by doing their holiday shopping in New Bedford,”

And if you do happen to get ticketed during the free parking time period in the designated areas you can mail or present your ticket along with a copy of a sales receipt for $10.00 or more from a Downtown or North End Business District restaurant/merchant to the City of New Bedford Traffic Commission Office. The parking ticket will be forgiven with the presentation of the same day receipt.
