As Foxwoods continues to look for suitable places to break ground on a Massachusetts casino, it appears that New Bedford has jumped in front of Fall River, on their radar. New reports from SouthCoastToday.com claim that the Casino Resort and investment group Crossroads Massachusetts LLC found potential Fall River sites unsuitable and are now in "serious negotiations" with New Bedford to build on the Whaling City Golf Course.

Fall River Mayor, Will Flanagan, said that he has no knowledge of Foxwoods' new plans, but only that he has been working carefully with the casino, over the past several weeks. On the other hand, the New Bedford Mayor's office is referring people to a previous statement issued by Mayor, John Mitchell in which he said that the city had been in discussions with casino project proponents and is open to exploring any gaming proposal that is the "right fit."

If a New Bedford deal is made and a new casino is built, it would open up 2,000 jobs, which would greatly help the economy...potentially providing more than 30 million dollars a year to New Bedford.
