Four people were arrested for alleged involvement with two drug transactions in the South End Thursday night.

New Bedford Police Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that at around 7 p.m. detectives observed a suspect, identified as 22-year-old Xavier Thompson selling cocaine to another man, identified as 49-year-old William Reed in the area of Ruth St. and McGurk St.

Both men were stopped and arrested.

Officers found 19 bags of cocaine nearby with an additional bag found in the possession of Reed.

$173 in cash was also seized.

Vicente says that roughly a half hour later a suspect, identified as 38-year-old Victor Perez, was observed selling Percocet tablets to a woman in a silver Buick near Rockland Ave. and Acushnet Ave.

When he was approached by officers he allegedly threw a handful of pills away.

Detectives were able to gather 39 Percocet tablets from the area and Perez also had $75 in cash on him.

The driver of the Buick, identified as 24-year-old Sandra Carter, was located near Wamsutta St. and No. Front St. around 10:30 p.m. and taken into custody.

The four suspects, all New Bedford residents, were scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in in New Bedford District Court.
