It won’t be Joal's anymore, but garage will remain in the automotive business under another familiar name.

Moving in will be Rob’s Auto Care, the business now located at 213 Long Highway in Little Compton will be movie to the former Joal's location of 500 Adamsville Road in Westport.

As a local native to Westport, it's strange to see such change in a business that others as well as myself have passed by through the years, but content in knowing that another business will soon be leaving their name on the property front just as Joals did.

According to EastBay RI, Owner Robert Camara Jr. said it’s just the opportunity he’d been looking for. “We’ve outgrown our current location and (Joals) is a much larger facility — more garage space, more parking … ”

Rob’s, which has rented its Long Highway space for the past six years, has seen steady growth, Mr. Camara said. The business does all manner of automotive repairs except body work. Camara says he’ll no longer pump gasoline at the new place — he’d face the same costly storage tank issues that had contributed to Joals shutting down — but does hope to sell diesel.

He is keeping the lifts at the old location and adding in two more of his own. “That will give me three lifts instead of two — a very big difference in getting work done.”

Once Joals closes on Columbus Day weekend, the process of removing the old gasoline tank will begin. The actual move will likely take place during the week between Christmas and New Year’. The goal is to open the new Rob’s Auto Care on Jan. 5.

“It’s going to be a hectic few months but this is an exciting new chapter for all of us,” he added.
