Former congressman Barney Frank says there's only one presidential candidate with a real chance to win.

On monday, Frank appeared at UMass Dartmouth to promote his book, Frank: A Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriage, and to discuss the 2016 presidential election.

Frank, who served in Congress from 1981 to 2013, says he likes the democrats' chances in the upcoming race despite historic trends.

According to the former Massachusetts State Rep, the opposing party typically the opposing party does well after a two term presidency.

So, with President Obama's two terms the Republican party should have a good chance at the White House.

However, Frank says the spectacle that is the Republican race has devalued the party's brand.

"This presidential primary with Trump and Carson, two very unlikely candidates that I think have appeal within the Conservative Republican wing but not for the whole country. I think that's damaging them and I think that will be a problem for them next year," Frank tells WBSM News.

Frank also said during his forum that he's been surprised with how bad of a candidate Jeb Bush has been.

With limited national support for Bernie Sanders as a self-declared Socialist, Frank sees Hillary Clinton as the next United States President.
