NEW BEDFORD - Firefighters are on the scene of a structure fire in New Bedford's North End this Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported before 8 a.m. at 146 River Road, just off of Wood Street and east of Belleville Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from a loading dock area at the building. The fire was feared to have spread to the building's interior, but was quickly brought under control.

First responders on scene tell WBSM News the fire appears to have originated from Bouchard's Carpet. The one-story structure is home to Bouchard's Carpet, John's Automobiles Unlimited, and The Vocal Development Studio.

It's unknown at this time if there was any significant damage as a result of the fire.
