FALL RIVER — A welfare check led Fall River Police to arrest a man for possession of guns, drugs and counterfeit money.

On Saturday, July 7 at approximately 5 a.m., Fall River Police Department Uniform Division Officers were dispatched to 91 Chavenson Street on a welfare check call. On arrival, Officer Brandon Wixon spoke to 35-year-old Robert Taylor.

Taylor stated to Officer Wixon that his girlfriend fled from the area when she learned he had call police because she had warrants. A missing person report was filed.

As part of that investigation, the apartment needed to be checked to verify she had not returned and was not in distress. Officer Wixon asked for permission to check the apartment. Taylor granted permission, secured his dog and allowed officers to enter. With the assistance of Officer Brendan McNerney, they entered the apartment.

Taylor pointed out their shared bedroom. As officers entered to check the room, they observed numerous pills scattered about, a large box containing marijuana, a box of used needles, cut straws and other drug-related paraphernalia in plain view. In a second bedroom, officers observed two unfired 9mm rounds on a bureau. Taylor stated that the room used to be his daughter’s, and was rented out to someone who no longer living there.

Taylor was escorted out to the living area. Officers Wixon and McNerney were now joined by Officer Neil Rodrigues. With the scene now secured, Officer Wixon applied for and was granted a search warrant with the target being Taylor and his apartment.

During the execution of the search warrant, officers located eight digital scales, three pellet pistols, a flintlock replica pistol, pellet pistol rounds, a Department of Defense Badge, gun cleaning kits, and numerous prescription narcotics for which Taylor had no prescription, such as Gabapentin, Seroquel, Phenelzine, Cymbalta, Quetiapine, Zoloft, and Suboxone. Several unidentified pills as well as plastic baggies and rubber bands were located. Officers located 157 counterfeit $100 bills.

Taylor did possess a valid Massachusetts Medical Marijuana card to possess the marijuana.

Robert Taylor, age 35, of 91 Chavenson Street was taken into custody on charges of possession of counterfeit notes, possession of ammunition without an F.I.D. card, six counts of possession to distribute a Class E drug, and possession to distribute a Class B drug.
