The Greater Fall River transgender community are getting local assistance.

According to Heraldnews, Dr. Kishore M. Lakshman, who is an endocrinologist and the director of the Prima-Care Thyroid Center, is now helping the transgender community of Greater Fall River. He will be opening a Sexual Health Clinic for the transgender community as well.

Lakshman says, "I'm very excited that we'll be able to embrace this issue".  The number of transgender patients has increased this past year and he says that "It's more than medicine. It's shaping someone's self confidence and self esteem and can affect partner relationships."

Lakshman now has a full trained stand and is welcoming transgender people to his clinic. He wants his patients to be comfortable and to feel supported. The clinic has gender neutral bathrooms and a welcoming staff.

There will be counseling about feminizing and masculinizing therapy options. Also, there is  a range of other clinical opportunity in gender affirming hormones and monitoring, fertility, sexuality and anatomy, HIV, nutrition, and much more.

Lakshman is helping his patients through each step of the process and is making realistic expectations. In the future, he would like to work with children and would like to offer sexual reassignment surgery. He is currently working with Arbor Health System in Fall River for behavioral health services. The goal is to "support them throughout".

You can contact the Sexual Health Clinic at Prima-Care Medical Center, Division of Endocrinology, 277 Pleasant St., Suite 202. You can also call 508-235-0481.
