FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A Fall River man has been sentenced to three years in prison for seriously injuring his 4-month-old son.

The Herald News reports that 37-year-old Jeremy Ferreira was sentenced Monday by a judge who credited him for showing remorse and taking responsibility for his actions. He had pleaded guilty in March.

Police say the child was taken to the hospital in February 2016 with what turned out to be a two leg fractures, bone lesions and older injuries to his ribs that were in various stages of healing.

Ferreira at first denied hurting the child, but later told police he had bear-hugged the baby several times.

Police say Ferreira was frustrated with his lack of employment, arguments with the child's mother, and his inability to stop the baby's crying.
