A Fall River man faces manslaughter charges after a 2017 bar fight where he allegedly punched a man in the head.

Twenty-seven year old Pholla Mao was indicted last week by a Bristol County Grand Jury. He'll be arraigned in Fall River Superior Court at a later date.

According to the Herald News, Mao was involved in a fight outside a Fall River club in December, 2017.

Authorities say 37 year old Bryce Sabol of Freetown was arguing with another man when Mao approached him from the side and punched him in the head. Sabol was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground.

Though he regained consciousness, Sabol was later taken to Rhode Island Hospital suffering from a brain hemorrhage. He died a day later.

Mao's attorney said in court his client was defending his friend when he struck the victim.
