Fall River Man Arrested For Taunton Woman’s Murder

A Fall River man was arrested Friday night for the murder of a Taunton woman on Monday.

22-year-old James Souza of Fall River was taken into custody Friday night and charged with the murder of 23-year-old Vanessa Courtney as well as armed robbery.

Courtney was found stabbed to death in her apartment by her girlfriend. ABC6 reports that her throat was also slashed.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said Souza and Courtney did know each other, but did not release any other information about the case.

Souza remains in custody and will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Monday.
