An early morning fire has taken the life of a Fall River woman. The fire was reported early Friday in the third floor apartment of a multi-family home on Globe Street. Fall River

Fire Chief John Lynch tells WBSM News the smokey fire was contained to the bedroom and was quickly extinguished, however, a woman who had run into the building to check on the tenants was found unresponsive on the third floor.

Fifty-year old Christine Lomas, who lived in the building, was rushed to St. Anne's Hospital for smoke inhalation and was resuscitated several times. The Herald News is reporting she later passed away.

The State Fire Marshall's office, state and local police, and the Bristol County District Attorney's office are also investigating.
