Experts say the Fall foliage is delayed this year, but things are still looking pretty nice out there on the Southcoast.

It's already mid-October and there's still lots of green on the trees across the Southcoast. So why is that?

Apparently the leaves change when the days get shorter and the nights get colder. And with the fairly mild fall we've had so far, many trees haven't even started to change.

As Bill Simpson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton, told The Standard Times, that means the foliage season is Massachusetts will be delayed about a week to ten days.

So with the cold snap heading our way this weekend, things should really start getting colorful next week.

Meaning if you are hoping to get out there for a scenic drive or a picture perfect fall day will the family, next weekend could be the best time to enjoy the fall colors this year.
