Fairhaven Police Chief Involved in Motor Vehicle Crash

FAIRHAVEN — Fairhaven's Chief of Police was involved in a motor vehicle crash this afternoon.

Just before 3 p.m., an unmarked Fairhaven Police vehicle, being operated by Fairhaven Police Chief Michael Myers, was involved in a crash with another vehicle at the intersection of Howland Road and Main Street.

Chief Myers was responding to a call of a fleeing suspect with outstanding warrants, who was running from police. The police vehicle had its emergency lights activated as it was crossing Main Street, when it collided with the second vehicle.

The police vehicle was a white 2017 Ford Explorer, traveling westbound on Howland Road. The second vehicle, was a black 2005 Cadillac CTS, was traveling northbound on Main Street.

The sole occupant of the Cadillac was a 23-year-old Fairhaven woman. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Chief Myers, who was also a sole occupant, was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate the crash.

The suspect who fled from police has five outstanding arrest warrants for shoplifting, multiple motor vehicle violations, resisting arrest, trespass and drug charges.

The crash is under investigation.
