The Claire T. Carney Library Associates of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth proudly presents its first program of the fall season. John B. Cummings, Jr., local realtor and author, will present a lecture and slide presentation on his latest book, Cream of the Crop: Fall River’s Best and Brightest. The event will take place on Monday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. in the Grand Reading Room of the Claire T. Carney Library.

John B. Cummings, Jr. is a native of Fall River. He was educated at Regis College, the University of Rhode Island and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He served as Vice President of the Fall River National Bank in the 1970s and was named Outstanding Young Man in Fall River in 1972 and in America in 1974. In 1996, Mr. Cummings was named Endowment and Planned Giving Director of the United Way, a position he held until his retirement in 2006. He and his wife are the owners of the Cummings Group Realtors in Westport.

Mr. Cummings is the recipient of various awards for advertising excellence. His first book, The Last Fling - Hurricane Carol 1954: Stories from Westport Massachusetts, was recognized with awards from the New England Book Festival and the Beach Book Festival in 2012.

A book signing and light reception will follow the lecture.
