On Friday, March 13, 2015 both the Queen of Pop and TV's hottest new series had albums released. There was much anticipation as to whether or not Madonna would come in at number one in true Madge fashion, competing with the likes of top producer, Timbaland.

The Billboard 200 chart announced yesterday at 10:40pm that Empire's soundtrack featuring artists like Mary J (The Queen of R & B), beat out Madonna's newest studio album  Rebel Heart. The difference was only 9,000 units. Empire soundtrack sold 130,000 units in its debut weekend with Madonna in at number 2 at 121,000 units. Rebel Heart is Madonna's 21st top ten album release.

Industry pros foresaw a race for the number one spot leading into the weekend of March 15, calling the win a 'huge surprise'. The TV show soundtrack includes tracks from artists such as Jennifer Hudson, Rita Ora, Juicy J, Courtney Love and of course, Mary J. Blige.

But Madonna should still be very proud. Billboard states that considering an album leak on the internet a few weeks earlier, Rebel Heart sold very well. Some collaborations you'll find on Madonna's release, Nicki Minaj, Nas and Chance.
