FALL RIVER - MA

Defense wins championships, and Thanksgiving Day games.

The Durfee Hilltoppers taking on the New Bedford Whalers is one of the Southcoast's favorite Thanksgiving Day matchups!

The Hilltoppers came out strong in a game no one projected them to win. After a huge fourth and one stop, the offense wasted no time putting points on the board with an Eddie Feliciano 34-yard touchdown pass on the run to Franklin DaSilva, followed by a two point conversion to put the Hilltoppers up 8-0.

Once again on the Whalers second possession, Durfee's defense (sense a theme) came up big with a fourth and goal stop on the six yard line!

New Bedford did put up points before the first half ended with a Jadrian Carrion eight yard rushing touchdown, although the Hilltoppers kept their lead at two points by blocking the extra point.

In a scoreless second half, the Whalers were driving with time running out, and the game was on the line with a fourth and three just twenty two yards away from the end zone! Unfortunately for the Whalers, Quarterback Tru Williams' pass was incomplete and the Hilltoppers defeated the Whalers for the second straight year!
