Have any of your Facebook friends recently posted anything about privacy being compromised now that Facebook is a privately owned company? According to this article from MSNBC, it is simply a modern day version of a chain letter...a virtual hoax.

By all accounts, the best way to ensure your privacy on Facebook is to comb through the lengthy and tedious "privacy settings". A spokesperson for Facebook told msnbc.com that it is aware of the "recent status update that is being widely shared implying the ownership of your Facebook content has recently changed. This is not true and has never been the case. Facebook does not own your data and content."

In other words, the fact that Facebook is now a publicly traded company on Wall Street has absolutely nothing to do with privacy rights. It might, however, be a good time to double check your privacy settings on Facebook to make sure they reflect a level of privacy with which you are comfortable.
