Be honest; do you text and drive? Do you fiddle with your GPS while the vehicle is in motion? Do you pay more attention to what song is playing on the radio or iPod than your surroundings? We all think the same thing: "It will only take a second. Nothing will happen." Well we've heard enough reports in the news that this is not the case.

If you were to drive at 65 mph for five seconds, you would have traveled the distance of a football field. Imagine looking down at your phone without a glance ahead of you for the entire duration. How much do you think you would miss?

April is "Distracted Driving Awareness Month." During my junior year of college, a few of my friends came together for a group project. Our assignment was to discuss a problem society has with media and technology and present it to the rest of the class. However, we felt so strongly about our topic, that we took it a step further and created a public service announcement. My partner was savvy with video editing, so we put this quick clip together for the class. (Please ignore the fact that the car is not actually moving. We were on a college campus, not a multimillion dollar movie set).

Discuss this issue with your loved ones, especially teens. There are plenty of campaigns to draw inspiration from to get the conversation started. It Can Wait is the latest from AT&T, and a very well known campaign for the cause. Make the Pledge!
