Sometimes, when I watch television, my mind drifts from the plot and onto the  "what ifs". Like, What if Walking Dead was real, and a Zombie apocalypse did occur? Or how long would I survive before the Walkers got me?

This week, AMC, the network that carries "Waking Dead" was running a marathon of episodes. They usually do this in an effort to catch up any potential new watchers or to refresh the memories of regular fans.  The thought crossed my mind about how dirty these characters must all be.  In real time, Walking Dead is in it's 5th season, but I believe it is covered just about two years of time on the series.  Those people (if they were real) have not bathed, washed their hair, shaven or practiced any hygienic activities (with a few exceptions).

Their daily activities for survival require them to be quite active and to get very messy. They have to stab walkers in the brains in order to kill them completely.  So aside from this gory practice every day, they also lack plumbing, toiletries and have to hunt for food sometimes.  Here's my run down of who I think probably smells the worst right about now.

    Rick Grimes

Rick, being the leader of the pack, has had to face enemies, walkers and wife stealing best friends head on.  He's the one calling the shots and navigating the clan toward safety. He's often charged with designing a plan for survival and safety.  He makes the list for obvious reasons.

    Maggie

All was well on the farm before Rick & company disrupted Maggie's family's sheltered existence. Maggie served as her father Herschel's right hand when providing medical care. Maggie has been through the ringer. She helped C-section deliver baby Judith. Since then, she's also been held captive by the Governor in his dungeon and she's roamed the country side looking for her group.

    Carl Grimes

At his father's side through this adventure, we've seen Carl grow from boy, to young man. That means puberty. Can you imagine having to slay zombies and fight to stay alive while also having hair grow in funny places and your voice dropping.  Most teenage boys are just starting to navigate through new hygienic practices.

    Daryl

He's a motorcycle riding bad-ass. But to look at Daryl, you can see how greasy his hair is.  Why women think he's sexy, I'll never know.  I just look at him and think, 'dear Lord, haven't they found a pharmacy stocked with dry shampoo on the shelf yet'? Despite his looking like Pig Pen from the Peanuts Gang, he's still a total tough guy and supreme Zombie slayer.  I'd  want to be on his team.
