NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police have confirmed that a body was found at Buttonwood Park on Thursday.

Police say it appears to be the body of an individual who had been living in a tent on the Route 6/Kempton Street side of the park. The body was discovered by joggers at about 8:43 a.m. Thursday.

Gregg Miliote, spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, says the body was decomposed to the point of just skeletal remains, and it was found under an abandoned tent. The remains are now in the custody of the medical exmainer in order to attempt to identify the deceased.

No foul play is suspected, but the investigation is ongoing.
