NEW BEDFORD - A 22-year-old Dartmouth man was found dead in the Ash Street Jail on Sunday.

Jonathan Darling, spokesman for the Bristol County Sheriff's Office, has confirmed to WBSM News that Tyler Holdsworth was found in his cell around 5:30 P.M. Sunday. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Darling says Holdsworth committed suicide by hanging.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the death, as is procedure.

Dartmouth Deputy Chief of Police Brian LeVesque says Dartmouth officers arrested Holdsworth on Saturday on an outstanding warrant. The warrant stemmed from a probation violation. He was also charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer resulting from his Saturday arrest at 2:20 a.m. at his home at 57 McCabe Street in South Dartmouth, after he kicked one of the arresting officers.

Holdsworth was a 2012 graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.

Editor's Note: WBSM/FUN 107 does not typically report suicides unless they are conducted in a public manner or take place in a public facility. If that is the case, reports are written with the utmost amount of sensitivity to the situation.
