In a surprising upset on Monday night, Dan Freitas won the race for Fairhaven Board of Selectman knocking off incumbant Geoff Haworth by a large margin.

The former Board of Public Works member won with 580 votes. Former school superintendent Bernard Rodericks came in second with 526 votes, Haworth received 387 votes, and Patricia Pacella finishing with 162 votes.

Freitas will start his work as selectman quickly, as his first day on the job will be tonight at 6.

Freitas tells WBSM News he plans to follow through with his campaign promises, saying he hopes to find a solution for the Rogers School building and will strengthen Fairhaven's Police and Fire Departments.

The race for Fairhaven's two open School Committee spots saw incumbant Stacie Powers win with 909 votes and newcommer Michael McNamara take the second vacancy with 887 votes. Tatiana Andrade received 495 votes.

Thomas Arsenault won a tight race for Fairhaven Housing Authority, defeating John Farrell 529 to 502.

In other town election news, Acushnet's new selectman will be Michael Cioper who recieved 591 total votes. Leslie Dakin came in second with 382 votes, while David Costa got 225 votes.

Former Acushnet Selectman David Wojnar did not run for re-election.
