An absolutely devastating story out of Connecticut late last week.

A 16 year old girl at a high school in Milford, CT, Maren Sanchez, was stabbed to death after turning down a prom date proposal from another student. Staff and paramedics tried to save her, but she died of wounds to her neck and torso.

The male suspect, who has not been identified, has been taken into custody and is being evaluated medically.

The Jonathan Law High School prom was postponed, but friends of Maren Sanchez took an opportunity to honor her. They put on their formal wear, went to a nearby beach, and while holding up her prom dress, released balloons in her honor. They also crowned their slain classmate and friend, as their Prom Queen.

Maren Sanchez's name has been painted on a rock at the Jonathan Law High School. She was also supposed to be in the school's production of "Little Shop of Horrors" at the end of this week. The show will go on in her honor.

Rest easy Maren Sanchez.
