According to town authorities, the Hix Bridge is in good condition, but not great.

The Herald News stated that town authorities and others at Monday’s selectmen’s meeting expressed their concerns about the bridge. Authorities stressed that it will not fall apart any time soon, but it should be in better condition.

Harbormaster Richard Earle noticed that the cement is starting to come off and material and fiberglass castings have been peeling off the bridge.

The latest inspection was completed last September and it was noted that the two columns at each of the piers have fiberglass jackets, several of which were missing or damaged.

Selectmen Vice Chairman R. Michael Sullivan stated that on a state rating scale of A to F, with A being excellent, the Hix Bridge received a score in the B range.

Resident Wayne Sunderland stated that the town should seek a second opinion from a professional about the bridge’s condition, considering that it is less than 10 years old.
