Want to stay warm as the temperatures drop drastically low this weekend? Here are some tips for surviving the cold.

Obviously your best bet when it gets as bitterly cold as it will be this weekend is to simply stay in where it's warm. But if you have to venture out (or just kind of want to), here are some tips for staying as warm as possible.

  1. Wear a hat. Your mom may have told you this one before, but 50% of your body heat can escape through your head. Keep it in there with a hat!
  2. Go with mittens instead of gloves. Mittens that are secure at the wrist will keep you hands much warmer than gloves.
  3. Wear loose-fitting, light weight clothes in layers. Remove layers as you warm up to keep from getting sweaty. (The wet sweat will dry and freeze making you colder once you stop moving otherwise)
  4. Wear a water repellent, wind resistant coat with a hood. Keeping the wind and wet out will help keep the heat in.
  5. Once indoors, get in dry clothes as quickly as you can.

And always remember if you start to lose feeling in your fingers, toes, ears, etc...get inside! Frostbite can happen in as little as 30 minutes in weather as cold as the Southcoast is getting this weekend.
