BOURNE — The children’s splash pad at the Buzzards Bay Park has been shut down following an incident Tuesday afternoon in which a child was injured, reportedly losing a toe.

Multiple outlets are reporting that the Bourne police and fire departments were called to the splash pad at about 1:15 p.m., for the report of an injured child.

The child, whose age or gender were not released, was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

Boston 25 is reporting the child is believed to have lost a toe in the incident.

The town's recreation department, however, only said the splash pad and playground are "closed for maintenance until further notice."

Meanwhile, town officials say the splash pad will remain closed while any potential problem is diagnosed and corrected.

The brand new splash pad first opened back in May of this year.
