We asked and you answered: here are the best places to celebrate National Fried Clam Day across the SouthCoast.

Whether you prefer clam strips or clam bellies, when you get your hands on a giant boat of fried clams, you know your own belly is about to be pretty happy.

According to Fun107 fans, these are your favorite fried clam locations on the SouthCoast:

  1. Gene's Famous Seafood in Fairhaven
  2. Kool Kone in Wareham
  3. Flo's Clam Shack (Middletown, RI) & Flo's Drive-in (Portsmouth, RI)
  4. DIcky's Clam Shack in Dartmouth & Rehoboth
  5. Seafood Hut in Acushnet.

They're a staple New England food, but not many people may know that fried clams are the brainchild of Essex, MA couple Chubby and Bessie Woodman. Long, fried story short, business was slow and Chubby decided to fry some clams, well, just because. After a few test batches, the couple found a recipe that tasted great, and they passed them out at the Essex Fourth of July parade the next day. Fast forward all these years, and fried clams have become standard SouthCoast fare.

Celebrate the birth of Bessie and Chubby's fried-baby and buy a boat of clams on the way home from the beach. Your belly will thank you!
