Screenwriting legend, Carl Gottlieb was in New Bedford yesterday looking to potentially use New Bedford as the backdrop for his new movie.

Gottlieb is most famously known for writing the script for "Jaws," "Caveman" starring Ringo Starr and also sitcoms such as "The Odd Couple," "The Bob Newhart Show," and "All in the Family." He also directed and co-wrote "The Jerk" starring Steve Martin.

The script for Gottlieb's new movie is about a Portuguese woman who throws her ex-boyfriend's belongings into the ocean with a note that reads "PLEASE DO NOT RETURN".  The stuff washes up on the shores of Portugal, but not before the 'do not' washed off of her note.  When a man from Portugal finds the belongings, he travels all the way to America to return them...and fall in love with the Portuguese girl.

The movie is yet to be cast, but some names that are being tossed around for leading roles are Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Penelope Cruz, and Katy Perry.

Ian Abreu, City Councillor,  got the chance to show him around New Bedford and says "This movie production, if he chooses to select our community, would be a tremendous economic boom!"

Why I love my job. Today, I got to show off our wonderful city to screenwriting legend, Carl Gottlieb. He's looking...
