According to event organizers, the Cape Cod Scallop Fest will not take place in 2018.

Usually, the almost 50-year-old festival takes place the last weekend of September but has been pretty much a wash due to weather in recent years.

Aside from the chance of a rain-out, the event is also "risky and expensive", according to the Cape Cod Regional Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to the seafood, the weekend also usually includes an arts and crafts fair, car show, and bands.

While it will not take place this September, there is no word on whether or not it will be canceled indefinitely.
