The crowd at Wellfleet Beach banded together this past weekend to save a great white shark.

Labor Day weekend was very interesting for some sunbathers on the Cape.

Seems a great white shark got itself stranded on Wellfleet Beach on Sunday and could not get back into the water.

That's when dozens of beachgoers (who are much braver than myself!) got together for a rescue effort.

As reporter Stephan Werk told CNN,

We walked down there and the first thing I noticed was a shark’s fin. It was a pretty massive great white shark. People at the time were just shuffling back and forth pouring buckets of water into a little moat they had built to keep the shark cool.”

As his video shows, the people ten pulled the shark down the moat by its tail to get it back in the ocean!

Unfortunately their amazing efforts were in vain. CNN reports that the shark did not make it and died despite the lifesaving attempt.
