A long held traditional may be done away with in Rhode Island in a couple of years.

The providencejournal.com reports that the Rhode Island Association of School Superintendents is looking into whether or not to cancel February vacation starting in the 2015-2016 year and replace it with a long weekend instead.

Now before you or your kids get upset about this, listen to some of the reasons and pros for this decision:

1. It would get rid of the need to make up snow days in June

2. it would establish more continuity between Christmas Break and Easter Break.

3. Schools will be let out earlier in the summer!!

The main goal of this decision is to not disrupt the educational process.

Apparently, February breaks are mostly a New England thing, with school in the South and Mid-West having just one break in March or April.

The next question for the RI School Committe is whether or not to have one break, in March.

Union leaders urge the school committees to look at the entire academic schedule before making any other further changes.

We'll see if this comes over to schools in Massachusetts!
