A construction worker has died after he fell 70 feet from a scaffolding while working on the Mount Hope Bridge.   The 1200 foot bridge connects the towns of Portsmouth and Bristol, Rhode Island, and can actually be seen from the Braga Bridge on clear day or night.

The worker is identified as 45-year-old David Pupee of Connecticut. He passed away a few hours after being rushed to Rhode Island Hospital.

The bridge has been opened to traffic, but the Rhodes Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority has stopped work on both the Mount Hope Bridge and the Newport Pell Bridge.  They plan to review their safety procedures and requirements.
