Two Thursday afternoon traffic accidents lead to lengthy delays and road closures on the Bourne Scenic Highway.

Police Sgt. James Czyryca says the first accident scene was a head-on crash that occurred during a heavy downpour of rain when a vehicle on the eastbound side lost control and crossed into the westbound lane striking the second vehicle head on near Acropolis Dr.

That vehicle was pushed into a third vehicle and a fourth vehicle went off the roadway onto the shoulder as it swerved to avoid the crash.

The roadway was shut down for roughly 45 minutes and six people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The second incident was a rollover crash that took place at the traffic signal intersection on the Scenic Highway at the Herring Run Rest Area.

Czyryca says a vehicle on the eastbound turned left and struck a vehicle traveling on the westbound side causing that vehicle to roll over.

Four people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Czyryca says both accident scenes are under investigation.
