You don't have to be texting and driving to get in trouble. You might be legally liable for a crash if you're on the other end of the phone pretty soon.

According to CNN, a recent case in New Jersey in 2009 with a badly injured couple, and an 18-year-old whose truck drifted across the center line and hit them riding on their motorcycle. They had already sued him, but then turned around and also sued his 17-year-old girlfriend, who had texted him shortly before the crash.

Imagine if this became law? We sometimes ask ourselves, "What would it take for people to realize that you can kill if you're texting and driving?" This might be it. If you take your eyes off the road for even a second, anything can happen.

I know some of you might be saying, "But, the 17 year old girlfriend didn't know he was driving. How can the texter know when someone is behind the wheel?" I guess all you can do is ignore the texts so there's no issue. No text is worth a life. Put the phone down and touch base with the texter when you get to where you're going.
