NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police and State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office are investigating after a body was found in the city's Near North End this morning.

DA Spokesman Gregg Miliote confirms to WBSM News the body of a 30-year-old man was discovered this morning off of the east end of Washburn Street behind Kyler's Catch Seafood and near the Coggeshall Street bridge.

Witnesses say the initial discovery was made by a man who was walking his dog, who spotted the male body floating in the water. The man asked employees at Kyler's Catch to notify police.

The body has been removed by police.

Miliote says syringes were found in the possession of the deceased man, leading officials to believe the man died of a possible drug overdose or suicide.

The death is not considered to be suspicious in nature and foul play is not suspected.
