The town of Barrington Rhode Island, located not far from the border of southeastern Massachusetts has decided to ban stores and restaurants from using plastic bags.

The law takes effect on January 1st of next year.    Sponsors of the law said that nothing used for 5 minutes should be allowed to pollute the waterways for future generations.   You do see plastic bags all over the place.

It seems that I am always picking some up from my own front lawn.  In Barrington, stores will still use plastic produce, bakery and deli counter bags, and can charge customers a five cent fee for recyclable paper bags. Is this the right move?
