A family getting ready for an afternoon out ended up spending it in the hospital getting their infant stitches.

A family in Fall River was planning to spend some time at Chuck E Cheese today, but before they could leave the house someone opened a door and the family's pitbull came in.

And that's where things went terribly wrong.

According to The Herald, as the pitbull came in the room it went directly for the baby and ended up with what witnesses say was "half the baby's head in his mouth."

The dog was pulled off the infant by several people and later was taken into custody by Animal Control officers.

The baby suffered deep cuts to the back of her head and a partially severed ear. The baby’s vital signs were stable and paramedics did have her bleeding under control before they took her to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence around noon on Tuesday.

Police say the child's injuries were not life threatening.

A friend of the family told the newspaper that the owners do not plan on keeping the pitbull. She claims the dog has been fine with the older children, aged 7 and 8, but has always been jealous of the baby.
