Authorities have released the name of the man shot and killed in Taunton Monday night.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office says that at around 8:30 p.m. Taunton Police went to 103 Hart St., Building Five over reports of shots being fired inside an apartment.

Officers arrived to find the occupant of the apartment, identified as 24-year-old Nicholas Hoard, waiting for them.

A preliminary investigation determined that Hoard heard a knock on his door and when he opened it two armed and masked men forced their way inside.

Hoard was held at gunpoint by one of the men while the other man rummaged through the apartment.

A struggle ensued and Hoard was able to disarm the suspect holding him at gunpoint.

Investigators say the other suspect came back into to the room and drew his gun on Hoard.

Hoard then shot the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Dominque Scott of Taunton.

The other suspect fled the scene and Scott died on scene.

The District Attorney's Office says the second home invasion suspect is being sought and the investigation is ongoing.

At this time Hoard does not face any criminal charges in relation to this incident.
