NEW BEDFORD - Quick response from New Bedford Police Wednesday night led to the arrest of Dana DeAndrade, 48, of 129 Durfee St., New Bedford, for breaking into Dunkin Donuts on 231 Union St.

Police responded to an alarm at the business at about 10:03 p.m. When police arrived, they observed DeAndrade in the rear parking lot, with a cash register on the ground a few feet away.

He also had cash in his hand, some of which he dropped on the ground. A second piece of the cash register was located on the ground near the exit to the building and the front plate glass doors were shattered.

Police arrested DeAndrade on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, malicious destruction of property over $250 and disorderly conduct.

DeAndrade has a criminal record dating back to 1986. He spent two and a half years in the House of Correction after being convicted in 1997 of burglary and assault to maim. He received a suspended sentenced in 2007 for breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony. He was convicted twice in 2008 for breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and served six months on one charge and 98 days on the other.

He also has several convictions on various other offenses.

The arrest was made at 10:36 p.m.
