Answer To A Mom’s Question About School Resource Officers
This morning we took a call from the mother of a student at Dartmouth schools. She said her son was told that the school’s resource officer, who is a police officer, does not carry a gun.
We did not think the son was correct, but we asked for verification from those who might know for sure. We heard from police officers in Fall River and Falmouth. Both said that they always carry a gun. It’s considered part of their uniform. Security guards do not, in most cases, carry a weapon.
But it appears that without exception, police officers stationed at schools do carry their gun. Thank you for the call and the question, and the response.
