After losing her mother, grandmother and aunt to cancer, Angelina Jolie continues to take steps to prevent developing the deadly disease.

A few years ago, Jolie found out she indeed has the BRAC1 gene mutation. That means that she had an 87% chance of developing breast cancer and a 50% chance of ovarian cancer.

So, the actress decided to have a preventative double mastectomy two years ago. With the risk of ovarian cancer still a real issue for Jolie, she decided to take another proactive approach.

According to Time.com, Jolie said on Tuesday that she has decided to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.

For those who aren't familiar with the subject, it isn't an easy decision to make. There a lot of different factors to take into consideration besides reducing the risk of cancer.

Not only is there the obvious risk of going through any type of intense surgery, but the procedure forces a woman to go into menopause, regardless of age.

Jolie said in her New York Times Opinion article that she will need to take hormone replacements for estrogen and progesterone to counteract this, as she is only 39 years old.

Hopefully, all goes as planned for Angelina, who is constantly working to raise awareness for women's health, among so many other causes.
