Acushnet Family Sell Christmas Trees, Donate Profit To ‘Make A Wish’ Foundation

The Holiday season brings out wonderful and selfless stories of giving and good will.

While driving around in Acushnet, I noticed a sign that said "Xmas Trees For Make A Wish"... I immediately pulled into the driveway where I was instantly greeted by two polite little girls

Vanessa (8 years old) and Ava (6, soon to be 7 years old) Niemiec of Acushnet wanted to find out first hand what it's like to give back to their community, so they began selling Christmas Trees for a good cause. All profit made from the trees would go right to the "Make A Wish" Foundation.

I spoke with the girl's father, Luke Niemiec, and asked what spawned the idea to give back?

"We got the idea from watching hockey (NHL). A little boy was chosen as one of the 'Wish Come True' stories and it inspired us to give back just the same," Luke said.

Luke owns the local Acushnet Alternative Heating, is a husband/father of four (two daughters, two sons) and was a hockey player himself for Assonet from 2002-2003. Out of the kindness of his heart, he bought 150 trees from Lyme, New Hampshire and had it delivered to his business on Thanksgiving Day for his Daughters to sell.

"I wanted them to understand the true meaning of the holidays and working for a cause."

If the trees sell well, Luke says he would buy more to continue giving back.

During the week, the girls attend Friend's Academy, but as soon as they get home they get right to work.

"We will be open to sell Christmas trees from 3:15-7:00 PM on Monday and Tuesdays, 2:30-7:00 PM Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and most of the day on Saturdays from 10-7 PM" Luke said.

The Niemiec Family plans on selling Christmas Wreaths as well, as soon as they get delivered and even had help from a local business to help promote the 'Make A Wish' Foundation.

"We're very grateful for B4 Printing on Fort Street in Fairhaven for generously donating the 'Make A Wish' signs as we as the banners that are out front promoting the cause we are raising money for", Luke said.

Before leaving, I saw the perfect Christmas Tree, dished up the cash and now I'm ready to celebrate Christmas knowing the Tree that sits in the living room represented what the meaning of Christmas was all about.

Kudos to the Niemiec Family and Luke's daughters for giving back to those who are less fortunate that others as well as learning and understand the true meaning of hard work.
