He's served as New Bedford's Animal Control Officer for quite some time, and he has also travelled the country helping to rescue pets when disasters strike.   This week Manny Maciel will be presented with a national award in Orland, Florida.  It's the "Humane Hero Award" and it's given by the American Humane Association.   That organization has been dedicated to protecting both children and animals since 1877.

In addition to his tireless work saving animals here on the Southcoast, Manny Maciel is a "Red Star" volunteer.   Since 2005, he has traveled the country to assist in animal rescue operations.   He was New Orleans saving pets after Katrina struck.  Maciel also travelled to Moore, Oklahoma twice following this year's deadly tornado.

Congratulations to Manny Maciel on getting the recognition he deserves for a job well done.
