I've gotta say, Fall River is becoming the place to be when it comes to new businesses here on the SouthCoast.

The first two locations south of Boston to welcome the discount supermarket ALDI were Plymouth and then Raynham. Soon after, a location in Wareham opened, close to the Wareham Crossing shopping plaza and the Super Walmart.

Now, ALDI is proposing a new location on William S. Canning Boulevard, where the Shaw's Supermarket used to be.

While there is no planned opening date, ALDI tells Fun 107 that "all new and remodeled ALDI stores, including the new Fall River store, feature open ceilings, natural lighting and additional storage for even more fresh produce, dairy and meat. The store will have about 12,000 square feet of retail space and a simple layout with only five aisles, making it much easier to navigate than a big-box store."

ALDI's first hiring event takes place at the Hampton Inn located at 53 Old Bedford Road in Westport on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They hope to fill many positions and are hiring store associates, shift managers, and manager trainees.

In the press release, ALDI says it plans to open some 2,500 stores by the end of 2022. No word on a grand opening date for the new Fall River location but we'll update this story as soon as the information becomes available.

ALDI was founded by the same German Albrecht family that started the very popular Trader Joe's stores, also know for their exclusive brands. I haven't given ALDI a try yet but plan to now that I've learned the store is similar to a Trader Joe's, which is my favorite food store.
