It was just a couple of months ago that J.K Rowling announced that she was writing a spinoff to the Harry Potter film series. Well she must write pretty fast, cause the first film already has a release date.

Don't get too excited Potter fans, That release date isn't for a few more years. But you will see a Harry Potter prequel (if you want to call it that) in theaters on November 18, 2016.

According to Vulture.com, the movie will be based on Rowling's book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemThe book was written as a textbook and was referenced in the film series. Now it will (in a way) be a film of its own.

The plan in to base the new movie around the book's "author" Newt Scamande. Scamande is a Magizoologist (person who studies magical creatures), so I think it may be safe to assume the movie will be about the creatures Newt comes across. (So lots of CGI).

Don't look for Harry, Hermione or Ron. The new movie will take place 70 years before the Potter series. So perhaps Dumbledore will make an appearance.

That weekend in November is already slated to be a big one for movies, especially for kids who read. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 is schedule to premiere on November 20, 2016.

I  certainly plan on seeing both!

And in other exciting Harry Potter news, looks like a whole new Potter based theme park is set to open this summer at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. You can now actually ride the Hogwarts Express!
